AKEWE, Hudson
Senior Lecturer
Dr. Hudson Akewe was born on 30th September, 1974 in Benin City, Edo State to the family of late honourable Amos Idaghe Akewe. He hails from Ahia, Ubiaja in Esan South East LGA, Edo State, Nigeria. He had his primary education at Ewoyi primary school (1981-1987), secondary school education at Esan Grammar School (1988-1993) all in Uromi, Edo State. He has the following degrees: B.Sc. Hons. (Second Class Upper division) in Industrial Mathematics (1999) at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), M.Sc. Mathematics (2005) and Ph.D. Mathematics (2010) both at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). He started his career as a Mathematics and Further Mathematics teacher in secondary school from 2001 to 2009 (Ambassador’s College and Radiance High School, both in Festac Town, Lagos). He was a graduate assistant (July 2004 to March 2005) and a graduate fellow (2006 to 2009) and was appointed as an assistant lecturer at the prestigious University of Lagos (Nigeria) the same year he bagged his Ph.D. (2010). He rose through the positions: from assistant lecturer to lecturer II (January, 2011) to lecturer I (December, 2012) and Senior lecturer (October, 2016). Dr. Akewe has both teaching and research experience. He has supervised some Ph.D., M.Sc., PGD and several undergraduate students’ theses/projects. He has served as an internal examiner for Ph.D. students at the School of Postgraduate Studies (UNILAG). His major academic contributions are in the areas of Metrical and Topological Fixed Point Theory and Applications, Abstract Mathematics and Real Analysis. He has published extensively in national and international reputable journals, with over 50 publications to his credit. He has attended several conferences and workshops both locally and internationally some of which include: The Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS, Nigeria), Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM, USA) and Mathematical Association of America (MAA, USA) under the University of Lagos Learned Conference Grant (UNILAG). Dr. Akewe is the postgraduate coordinator, Department of Mathematics. He is a founding member and secretary of Mathematical Analysis and Optimization Research Group (MANORG), a research group organized by both Department of Mathematics and Department of Computer Sciences (UNILAG). He is also a member of some learned societies which include: The Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS) and The American Mathematics Society (AMS). He has some administrative experience: he is the secretary, Curriculum Review Committee (Department of Mathematics, UNILAG), he is also the Diploma (JUPEB) and Sandwich coordinator (Department of Mathematics, UNILAG).
